This national competition is for 14 – 16 year old students studying chemistry.

About...
The West Midlands Local Section Committee of the Royal Society of Chemistry will again this year be hosting a regional heat for the RSC “Top of the Bench” competition aimed at KS3 and KS4 students.

The competition is designed to encourage and reward high achievement and is an excellent opportunity to showcase talent in the local area.

Team information ...
Each team should be made up of the following:

  • 2 students from year 9
  • 1 student from year 10
  • 1 student from year 11

Each school can enter up to TWO teams.

Regional Final...
The competition begins with a factual knowledge written test run by the RSC Local Section for Birmingham & the West Midlands to select the top 7 teams for a regional heat. This will take place at the University of Birmingham to select a team to represent the Section in the UK final.

The regional final stage will test factual knowledge as well as practical and problem-solving skills where teamwork will be an essential factor.

The winners of the regional heat will progress to the National Final.

National Final...

The National Final, organised by the RSC, includes:

A short test of factual chemical knowledge
A practical chemical problem-solving team exercise.

Saturday 9th March 2019
at the University of Birmingham!
